Grasses & Perennials

Grasses & Perennials

Certain grasses and many perrenials thrive in alkaline soil and a high Ph. Not all Mediterranean plants can survive the conditions in our garden, but the aromatic plants that live in the garrigue and poor soils of the southern vineyard regions all thrive. We have therefore collected seed and cuttings from surrounding hills and wild abandoned areas and found they have adapetd well in the garden.

Most of the above plants have become established and self seed. The parent plants have now put down long root systems to get what water they can from deep down. Some of the shorter lived plants such as the penstemons need replenishing with root cuttings each year.
